Flamingoes--those tall wading birds with curved bills--aren't what usually come to mind when asked about a favorite animal. Dolphins, eagles, maybe the shy, adorable sloth--these are the animals people tend to name. However, for Morgan Epler, these bright, feathered creatures have captured her heart. Epler is a fan of the birds because of their big personalities, complicated social lives, and their assertive natures.
"I'm not an aggressive person, unless I need to be," said Epler, a Wittenberg sophomore from Columbus, Ohio. She's majoring in primary education, specifically preschool through fifth grade. Her goal is to teach kindergarten because she loves to work with kids. Here's a brief Q&A with Epler about the color pink and her personal sense of style.
Q: What do you think your aesthetic would be?
A: "Pink. If you walk into my dorm room, everything is pink."
Q: What about pink makes you like it?
A: " The color pink makes me feel happy because it's bright and seems like a cheerful color."
Q: Are there any colors you feel strongly about?
A:" I don't like neon colors. I'd wear it for like a party theme, but not willingly any other day. I think they look like highlighters and I don't want to look like a highlighter."
Q: Is there specific clothing you like to wear?
A: "I like shorts and hoodie combos."
Q: Are you the type of person to wear shorts until it's too cold?
A: "No, I like it when it's warm enough to wear shorts, but cold enough to wear a hoodie."
Q: Are you excited for fall, then?
A: "That's my favorite season, so yes. It also is really pretty on campus."
Q: What kind of scenery calms you? Do you like beaches or wooded areas?
A: "I like the beach. It makes me not worry about anything." She adds, "I wouldn't go deep into the water though; I wouldn't go past my shins." (When she was a child at the beach, she and other swimmers mistook a manatee for a shark. So, no surprises. She doesn't trust the secrets the water hides.)
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: "If money wasn't the issue, I would travel outside of the country."
Q: Do you believe money can buy happiness?
A: "Money can get you to that moment, but it's the moment that makes you happy."
