Honors Convocation: Having Light We Pass It On To Others

Wittenberg University held its annual Honors Convocation Friday, April 10thThis occasion celebrated the achievements of students, faculty, and alumni, who encapsulate the spirit of the Wittenberg community. Recognizing academic, community, and leadership excellence, the awards presented highlight those who help Wittenberg have light and pass it on to others. The ceremony recognized departmental awards, honor society membership, and various university awards for students and faculty.


The E. Charles Chatfield Global Awareness Award recognizes seniors who have contributed to greater global awareness. This year’s recipients are Taylor Insyxiengmay and Emmalee Do.

The Champion Award for Community Impact recognizes commitment to the greater Springfield community through service and outreach. This year’s recipients are Abby Lanhart and Joi Garrett-Scales.

The Rose Award for Excellence in Community Partnership recognizes a member of the greater Springfield community who serves as an exceptional co-educator for students. This year’s recipient is alumna, Lauren Houser.  

The Lillian C. Franklin Diversity Award recognizes those who uphold tradition of diversity, demonstrate high standards of personal integrity, commitment to education, global vision, and leadership. This year’s recipients are Mary Osiwoga and Scott Rosenberg. 

The Martin Luther King Jr. Award recognizes two seniors who have been positive members to the black community and to the University at large. This year’s recipients are Antwan Terrell and Ty Harris. 

The Heimtraut Dietrich Award recognizes a senior who through faith and service carries on Miss Dietrich’s commitment to Wittenberg. This year’s recipient is Claire Patton. 

Alpha Delta Pi Scholarship Awards two women from the Junior class who exemplify scholarship, leadership, activities, and moral character. This year’s recipients are Alexandra Couch and Sydney Werner. 

The M. Alice Geiger Award recognizes a senior who has made significant contributions to the Wittenberg campus in performing arts, literary arts, athletics, leadership, new programming, special academic pursuit, or through special representation. This year’s recipient is Abby Lanhart. 

The John F. Mitchell Award recognizes a senior who represents the liberal arts tradition well. This year’s recipient is Quentin Rudolph.  

The Academic Advisor of the Year Award recognizes an advisor who has helped students set their educational, life, and career goals. This year’s recipient is Dr. Matthew Collier, a professor of Biology.

Omicron Delta Kappa Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award recognizes a faculty member with less than five years of dedicated service to Wittenberg. This year’s recipient is Dr. Kunal Chatterjee, an assistant professor of Biology. 

Alumni Association Award for Distinguished Teaching recognizes superior classroom teaching and contributions to the academic life of students and faculty. This year’s recipient is Dr. Richard Phillips, an associate professor of Biology. 

The Alma Lux Awards recognizes two juniors who encompass the true spirit of the Wittenberg community and the motto of “Having Light We Pass It On To Others” through leadership, scholarship, and service. This year’s Alma Lux recipients are Hailey Mulvihill and Rebekah Lebold. 

The university's Presidential Scholars are 15 members of the junior class who have the highest academic stadning. This year's Presidential Scholars are Hailey I. Mulvihill, Jillian N. Paskvan, Dominick M. Keefe, Morgan A. Long, Peyton M. Williams, Kailey R. Scharer, Daniel M. Patel, Jenna van der Biezen, Lilyan G. Winkle, Ava I. Golem, Alexandra H. Couch, Kristen A. Sallee, Kyleigh D. Bartlett, Tyler J. Galluch, and Joslin A. Mefford.

Seniors graduating with university honors are Joseph E. Bidwell, Abigail R. Danne, Emily E. Doerman, Andy D. Dozal, Kayla M. Drake, Emma C. Gearhart, Izabel A. Giglio, Leah M. Green, Julia M. Hall, Haleigh A. Heising, Jane E. Javorek, Molly E. Kirkpatrick, Katherine A. Lowry, Alexander J. McGinnis, Lanie L. Mersch, Shannon E. Morrissey, Jessica N. Neuerer, Claire K. Patton, Haley L. Pitman, Joshua B. Putka, Anna K. Roller, Elizabeth N. Selby, Caitlyn M. Shelton, Hanna C. Stefanik, Shania R. Stone, Allyssa J. White, Kristina M. Withem.
