Seniors Taking Their Last Serve: Through the Lens

DSCF1561.jpg

I had the opportunity to catch some tennis matches featuring the Wittenberg Tigers playing against the University of Depauw for their Senior Day. The seniors that were celebrated were players Sidney Purks, Grace Ralston, Carissa Schroeder, Caroline Sproule, Kyle Fout, Andrew Garofoli, and Ethan Libby. Here are the stats and my insights from the senior day matchup on April 18th.

Recap:

Wittenberg Men's Tennis vs DePauw: 0 - 7

Wittenberg Women's Tennis vs DePauw: 1 - 6

Despite the disappointing final scores for these Tigers on their senior day, the matches left you entertained by the back and forth action from both teams. This was a first for myself, being able to watch multiple live tennis matches in addition to taking photos and video for this team. I found it was an enjoyable, warm, tranquil environment.

What stuck out to me most out of the entire day was how, even after losing, the seniors' smiles remained on their faces. In my experience, athletes tend to have a mix of emotions, especially on their senior day's, but everyone being able to enjoy themselves after a rough matchup was a pleasant surprise.

Some athletes treat their desired sport with the upmost importance. Others use it as a way to have fun or a way to ease frustration or stress. However, no matter if it is a swing of a bat, or the intensity of a posterizing dunk from your favorite team, we all fall in love with sports for a reason. It's worth putting the effort in when you enjoy it.
