Another busy week has passed by for our Tiger athletes, and the fall seasons are officially in full swing. Let's take a look at what's coming over the week of Sept. 18.
Football
The first home game for the Wittenberg football program in the 2026 season is here, as the Tigers will play Washington University in St. Louis at Edwards-Maurer Field in a conference matchup on Saturday, Sept. 19 for a 1 p.m. kickoff. The team's second game of the season last week was rough, getting shut out 31-0 to conference foe Wabash University on the road. Tomorrow's game will be the first for new head coach BJ Coad, who has had experience both playing and coaching at home in Wittenberg and is seeking his first win as the head coach of the program. The Tigers will be looking to put their season back on track in a familiar setting, so make sure to come out to support your fellow students and the program!
Men's and Women's Soccer
Within the last week, the men's soccer program picked up a win in Boston, against the University of Massachusetts 2-1 with the game winning goal by junior Asher Donahue, assisted by freshman Gabriel Rahm with just four minutes remaining in the match. The team then tied their next two games, against Emerson College at 0 each, and 1-1 at home vs. Earlham College, bringing the team's overall record to 3-0-3.
The team will have two away games to start a stretch of five straight in their season schedule, playing at Alma College in Alma, Mich., on Saturday, Sept. 19 for a noon match start, and then to Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky., on Tuesday, Sept. 22 for a 7 p.m. match.
The women's team split their two games in the past week, winning at home vs. Adrian College 2-0 with both goals scored by junior Sarah Deaton, and losing on the road at Hanover College 2-0. For her performance in the Adrian game as well as the Otterbein game the week before, Deaton achieved NCAC Athlete of the Week honors with three goals, one assist and seven points on nine shots with eight on goal. The team had a third game scheduled for this past Wednesday but was canceled due to recurring thunderstorms, putting the current overall record at 2-3.
The women's team will also have two games to play within the next week, traveling to Transylvania before the men's team on Sept. 19 for a 1 p.m. game start and then returning home to play Hope College on Wednesday, Sept. 23 with a 4 p.m. start.
Women's Volleyball
After a rough weekend in Hope, Mich., where the team lost all three games in the MIAA-NCAC Crossover tournament hosted by Hope College, as well as a close loss to Marietta College in a five-set thriller, falling 3-2. The Tigers are going through a four-game slump, with their overall record at 3-5.
They are looking to rebound with another four-game week, traveling to Bloomington, Ill., for the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament hosted by the university. They will play Illinois Wesleyan University tonight, Sept. 18 at 8 p.m. EDT., before having a doubleheader the next day against Simpson College at 1 p.m. EDT and Greenville University at 3 p.m. EDT. They then will also travel to Transylvania University alongside the men's soccer team on Tuesday, Sept. 22 for a 7 p.m. match.
Men's and Women's Tennis
Both the men's and women's tennis teams will host Indiana East University on Saturday, Sept. 19 at the Albright Tennis Complex with a 12:45 p.m. slated start. After the Transylvania match last Saturday was canceled, the men's team won their first match of the season 4-3 over Mount Union after the games were moved to Columbus from Springfield due to weather, while the women's team fell 7-0, and both teams lost their matches in Cedarville last Wednesday (6-0 for the men's and 7-0 for the women's).
Field Hockey
After two losses on the road in Wisconsin to Concordia University and Marian University, the team will travel for another pair of road games this weekend, first heading to Washington and Jefferson University in Washington, Pa., on Saturday, Sept. 19 for an early match at 10 a.m., before heading to Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa., the next day for a noon matchup. These two games will be the first conference games for the program this season, and the team is looking to rekindle the magic from last season's late charge.
Men's and Women's Golf
After a pair of 8th place finishes in the first two tournaments of the season, the women's golf team is heading to Meadville, Pa., to compete in the Kuhn Invitational hosted by Allegheny College at the Country Club of Meadville on Sept. 20-21. The men's team had a rough tournament last weekend in Greensboro, N.C., placing 16th out of 18 teams. The main men's team won't be competing this weekend but will be bringing the B team out to Meadville to play alongside the women's team.
The Tiger athletes will be busy with several road games to compete in within the next week, make sure to follow along and support your fellow Tigers and show up to the home events!
