Spirit Week Highlights This Week's Athletic Events

spirit week schedule

It's a big week for Wittenberg Athletics, with several key matchups to look forward to. On top of that, Athletics is collaborating with several campus organizations such as Student Involvement and Greek Life to bring in Spirit Week for the students to enjoy!

The list of games begins tonight, February 4, with both men's and women's basketball as they face conference matchups in Pam Evans Smith Arena vs. DePauw at 5:30 p.m. and Kenyon at 7:30 p.m. respectively. Students are encouraged to bring their Red Gear to the games, and you can get free swag at the men's game and free Hawaiian shirts at the women's game.

On Friday, February 6, men's volleyball kicks off the 2026 Springfield Men's Volleyball Showcase, a two-day tournament hosted by Wittenberg. The Tigers first play Bridgewater at 5 p.m., then playing against #5 ranked Southern Virginia at 7:30 p.m., both in Pam Evans Smith Arena. Also on Friday, men's and women's track and field will travel together to Marshall University for a two-day show in Huntington, W. Va., for the Jewel City Invitational. They are coming off a second-place finish as a team in the Steemer Showcase, led by Senior Cameron Elliott, who captured two first-place finishes in the 500-meter dash with a school record time of 1:04.47 and ran a leg of the 4x200-meter relay where the Tigers won with a school-record of 1:27.45. Elliott achieved NCAC Athlete of the Week honors thanks to his performance this past weekend.

On Saturday, February 7, men's volleyball will continue their tournament with another doubleheader; first vs. ranked #13 Loras in the historical 1929 Gymnasium at 1 p.m., then vs. Illinois Tech at 6 p.m. in Pam Evans Smith Arena. Men's basketball will have a huge matchup against conference rival Denison as they battle for the top spot of the NCAC rankings, playing at 2 p.m. in Pam Evans Smith Arena. Men's lacrosse will also play a scrimmage against Baldwin Wallace at 2 p.m. in the Steemer in preparation for their season opener on February 14 vs. Trine. Students are encouraged to wear Black Gear and there will be free rally towels available from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. during the span of the athletic events.

Off campus on Saturday, women's basketball will play at ranked #12 Ohio Wesleyan at 1 p.m. for a second conference matchup this week, and men's and women's bowling will head to Columbus for Ohio Bowling Conference 4 at the Columbus Square Bowling Palace.

The men's basketball program is on a hot streak, winning three conference games consecutively and two players achieving NCAC Athlete of the Week honors in senior Eddie Brown last week and Noah Frayer this week. Frayer achieved a career best 31 points on the road vs. Wooster last Saturday, nabbing a 10-14 FG, shooting 5-7 from beyond the three-point line, and a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line enroute to the Tigers sweeping the season of Wooster for the first time since 2018.

The women's basketball program is starting to heat up as well, bouncing back from two consecutive conference losses and avenging an earlier loss this season with a 64-53 win over Wooster last Saturday. Sophomore Molly Mossing led the team with a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds, along with three assists, two steals and two blocks, granting her NCAC Athlete of the Week honors this week. With a 3-5 conference record, the lady Tigers look to continue their rebound and end the season with momentum.

The men's volleyball team head into the Springfield Men's Volleyball Showcase with momentum after a shutdown win against North Park last Saturday and enters the tournament with a 5-2 overall record.

With several key events this week for Wittenberg, they'll need all the support they can get from fellow students on campus. Make sure to come out with school spirit and pick up some free swag in the process!
